Christmas 2020 will be a very different form of celebrating due to COVID-19. With the Second wave of the virus impacting the world, health officials suggest that all holiday in-person gatherings be cancelled. However, with the influx of virtual meetings held this year, we can still celebrate Christmas with our loved ones online.
From the time I was born, my large family always celebrated Christmas with music, food, games, gift exchanging, laughter and fun shared memories. This was the one holiday I looked forward to as a child all the way through adulthood. My spirits are a little low since my family will not gather in person, however I have decided to come up with virtual ways to still make the best of this Holiday season.
Here are a few ways that you can still celebrate the Holidays with family from afar (virtually):
Virtual Christmas Talent Show
Invite your loved ones to a virtual talent show online. Break down your talent categories, allotted times and acts into segments and enjoy the family show.
Virtual Holiday Bingo
Google different examples and templates of Bingo. Then, develop a Holiday themed Bingo template to share with your family. The first player to mark up the designated squares in a row, will be the winner of the game.
Virtual Book Reading/ Puppet Show
Reading Christmas stories to the children of your family can be so much fun! Try incorporating puppets to use as a prop while reading the stories to your loved ones.
Virtual Ginger Bread House Making Contest
Many stores such as Walmart, Target and local grocery stores has ginger bread house box sets with all of the materials. Have each household purchase their set ahead of time, and make it a fun gingerbread house making contest. Have the family vote on the best house at the end of the party!
Virtual Pie Face Contest for the kids
This is a super fun and interactive game for kids! Ahead of the virtual party, have your family members purchase pie tin pans, whipped cream and apples. You will have each household slice up the apples and place it in the bottom of the pie pan. Top the apple slices with tons of whipped cream. Then, have your contestants sound off for a contest of who can get the most apple slices by mouth, without using their hands (sort of like bobbing for apples). Watch the amount of laughter and whipped cream faces you’d see in the end.
Virtual Ornament Decorating
A little arts and crafts can be entertaining. So why not as a group? Have your loved ones purchase clear Christmas bulbs, different paints, brushes, glue and glitter to have an ornament decorating party online.
I truly hope that these ideas inspire you to still celebrate with your loved ones this year, despite not being in person. I hope you all have a wonderful Holiday season!
Xoxo – Jazmin
