Traveling during COVID

My fiance and I will be having a destination wedding in Mexico next year. So, this past labor day week we took a trip to Costa Mujeres to visit our wedding resort and to finalize all of the necessary planning for the wedding. Also, we desperately needed a vacation and had to get away from home for a bit to reset (the wedding planning was our excuse to escape). I needed any excuse to pack my bag and GO! When I saw how cheap the flights were, it was GO TIME!

Mexico seemed to be one of the first countries to reopen for tourism in the midst of COVID. Travelers began traveling as early as July 1st, when the first resorts started opening their doors to the public. My fiance and I were weary of traveling so soon, but eventually the anticipation took over. I'm glad that we did, because our travel experience during COVID was seamless!

Upon our arrival to Cancun's airport, our shuttle driver informed us that the citizens suffered financially for a few months during the initial COVID shutdown, as the country generates majority of their revenue from tourism. He explained how happy they were to have us back visiting. Upon our arrival to our resort, we had to step in some sort of sanitization tray, immediately rub our hands with sanitizer at the front door and have our temperatures taken prior to checking into our room. Literally, EVERY staff member of the resort had on masks (properly, at that) and majority also wore a face shield in addition. That truly amazed me to see, as in the U.S we've seen people barely wear masks completely covering their mouth and nose.

The resort was running at a 30% occupancy level, which helped to have less crowding of people. Dinner reservations was a must so that they could schedule appropriate distancing of dining tables. As we entered into restaurants, we immediately had our temperatures taken and were directed immediately to the restrooms to wash our hands prior to being seated. While at the pools, the resort blocked off every other chair to create distance between lounge chairs. After each person left a lounge chair, there came a staff member who wiped the chair down before the next person used it. The entire trip, we admired the work ethic of each employee and how they ensured they cleaned, followed protocols and provided exceptional service with no complaints. Overall, we felt safer at our resort in Mexico, than shopping at a local grocery store back in the states - go figure.

While in Mexcio, my fiance was kind enough to act as my unofficial photographer - and to my surprise he actually captured a few great shots! Go babe!
